Thank you to the Board of Supervisors for your dedication to serving Albermarle County and helping make it a wonderful place to live, work and play! I am in favor of amending the County code to allow bicycling as well as running and hiking on the trails around the Ragged Mountain reservoir.
I strongly support rewriting the County code to allowed shared use by hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers of the trails surrounding the Ragged Mt Reservoir. The new code needs to focus on being inclusive for all County and City residents with regard to trail usage.
Thank you for your service and decision to reconsider how Ragged Mountain is used. I support reinstating biking for Ragged Mountain and implementing safety measures that help keep users safe. For example, hiker only portions of trail could be designated while keeping a contiguous loop around the reservoir open for bikers.
It is clear that biking on trails does not have a negative impact on the water supply. Also clear is that the mountain biking community has contributed significantly to the maintenance of the trails at Ragged and other county parks, and continues to invest in our local trail systems. I started mountain biking because it was no longer safe to ride on roads around the urban ring. Developing trails and connections to and between green space that can be used by hikers and bikers alike will not only be important for our recreational needs as a community but will create a better more connected place to live.
