I urge both ACPS and county supervisors to address the gaps that seem to exist between the ACPS and County budgets in meeting the essential urgent needs of struggling families with school-aged children.
Families Helping Families has been addressing gaps via an all-volunteer organization, and I urge you to identify a source of funding to sustain this work, particularly as federal pandemic assistance ends. I am submitting details via email, but the unmet gaps include for example:
- Actively managed network of non-profit orgs that serve school-aged families to allow school workers to efficiently identify which of the large number of orgs has funding available at any given moment for things like rental assistance and utility bills.
- Furniture and household items, short-term transportation, plus cleaning supplies and hygiene products.
From reading both strategic plans and budgets, it appears that both groups support these goals but the budgetary support isn't available. Thank you.
