I wanted to share a comment after Equity Audit was presented at the recent CAC meeting. First, I wanted to applaud the work being doing to not only document, but dig deeper into the inequities that we find in Albemarle county. These impact us all and we need to commit to addressing the disinvestment and disenfranchisement that these inequities perpetuate. One way to do this is to consider more deeply how the Federal ARPA funds can be used as an initial community investment in reversing these historical discrepancies. I would ask the BOS to consider taking an equity lens in thinking about how those funds are being distributed, creating a framework for recognizing the lack of investment and how the can be remedied. Though I also believe that we need to find better ways of centering the voices of those effect in those decisions. The County should deeply consider the participatory budgeting process that is taking place in Richmond and Durham as an example of how this could be done.
