As a member of the Flordon Neighborhood Roads Committee, I comment on behalf of the neighborhood that we are vehemently opposed to this entrance being allowed. As there is already congestion in the short section of the road from 250 to the bridge crossing the railroad tracks and then in to Flordon neighborhood, there is great concern that adding an additional driveway off of this road will be very dangerous and increase the likelihood of accidents. We as a neighborhood request that the Board please consider the safety of not only drivers in our neighborhood, but those many others that use this road to access Old Ballard and other residential areas in that direction and vote against the plan allowing this entrance to the Christian Aid Mission. Thank you.
We have lived on Broomley Rd for 40 years. We strongly oppose this request for a Special Exception for disturbance of critical slopes to enable construction of an entrance onto the steep downhill lane of Broomley Rd. When drivers turn right from 250 to Broomley, they cannot see what awaits them until they are already on the incline. During winter storms, Broomley is treated later than is Rt 250 and often refreezes overnight. With limited visibility and a steep downhill road with no berm, avoidance of vehicles turning from the proposed egress presents serious risks. The narrow railroad bridge at the bottom of the hill, and the sharp drop leading to the tracks below adds further concern for safety. We have assisted with accidents at the top of Broomley and have witnessed a car skidding on black ice onto the Broomley bridge. We urge you to vote NO on this proposed exception enabling egress onto Broomley Rd that creates dangerous driving conditions and risks to public safety.
