I have read the proposed emergency ordinance and wish to oppose it as written. This ordinance was appropriate and necessary a year ago and even a month ago. That is no longer true. We have seen successfully-high vaccination rates among our community’s most susceptible citizens. This means severe cases are down with fewer hospitalization and far fewer deaths. And, according to the health district’s announcement today, all county residents will be eligible to schedule a vaccine appointment beginning Monday, April 12. We need to actively support our local businesses that have suffered over the last year and allow those who have been vaccinated to lead the way in reviving our county’s economy. That can’t wait 60 more days. We should immediately begin to wisely and safely commit to a measured reopening, especially for individuals carrying proof of COVID vaccination. I hope the Board will modify this draft to reflect these prudent changes.
