18. 21-233 An Ordinance to Authorize the One-Time Payment of a Monetary Bonus to Employees of the County of Albemarle, Virginia. To receive public comment on its intent to adopt an ordinance to authorize the one-time payment of a monetary bonus to eligible employees of Albemarle County pursuant to Virginia Code § 15.2-1508. The ordinance would authorize a payment of $1,000.00 to eligible full-time and part-time employees who fill a total position of 0.7 full time equivalent and above, and a payment of $750.00 to eligible part-time employees who fill a total position of less than 0.7 full time equivalent.
While this ordinance is much needed and well deserved, it will be inequitably implemented and it is important that the Board and other members of our county understand this. In the ordinance, temporary employees are not eligible to receive any funds. This sounds understandable to a certain extent, but it should be noted that many temporary employees, including myself, have worked and supported their department and the organization in the same exact ways that full time, benefits eligible employees did during this pandemic. While we appreciate the opportunity to serve our community, our titles should not impact whether or not we are deserving of these funds. ALL county employees who have contributed to continuity of operation during the pandemic, regardless of title, deserve to be included in this ordinance for our hard work and contributions.
