22. 20-256 R. A. Yancey Lumber Corporation: Special Exception Request. Request for special exceptions to allow reduction in setbacks, expanded hours of operation, expansion in permitted sound levels range and reduction in vibration limits. Approval of the special exceptions will bring the existing mill into compliance and authorize new construction.
As a long-term of resident of Albemarle County and a recent transplant to Crozet, I urge the BOS to at the very least adopt the Planning Commission's recommendation. It would be better if the company were made to comply with all zoning and code ordinances, but the Planning Commission's compromise is second-best. While the mill employs local residents and creates tax revenue, that doesn't absolve it of a social responsibility to conform to County ordinances. Crozet residents pay taxes as well.
