I strongly oppose this change to the intersection of rt. 29 and rt 641 (Burnley Station Rd)
The change would create additional congestion, additional delays, greater likely hood of accidents.
The traffic light has been a blessing please don't change it.
We are opposed to the 29/FraysMill/Burnley Station Road proposed change (R-cut). It makes no sense to those of us who live out here that we would have to proceed right up 29 N to then turn around and head back down 29 S when traveling South out of the intersection. The amount of traffic has greatly increased since the traffic light was installed and this would just make matters worse. There is no reason to do an R-cut at this intersection since the traffic light is working very well. This light is very visible going up and down 29 and is not the problem. The backup happens from the light at Sheetz not from the light at Burnley when traffic is heavy in the area. No more funds from Albemarle County need to be spent on projects that will hinder, not improve traffic in our area. Both Burnley Station Road and Watts Passage have been severely neglected by the County of the years and need to be repaved. The 7 Million dollars could go towards road improvements that would make more sense.
I am opposed to the 29/FraysMill/Burnley station rd proposed change (R-cut) to intersection. 1.) This concept is not safe for All, including bikers. 2.) It's ludicrous to force drivers to head in opposite direction they are traveling, crowding both N&S bound lanes on 29. 3.) There are plenty of other roads that need repair, such as Watts Pssg., use some of the funds to properly pave it as its becoming the Eastern Bypass connecting Rte. 20 to 29/Seminole Trail. 4.) If the Western Bypass would have been built, this would not be an issue. 5.) Its not feasible or safe for Trucks, Trailers & any 10-Wheeler vehicles. 6.) It's money not well spent, like a lot of other "projects" in this area, CVL/ALB., the proposed cost will end up being 3-5 times more then estimated. Fix what already exists.
The shared-use path along Route 20 from Charlottesville would make the bike trip from town to trail and PVCC much safer and frankly feasible for so many more. We're a 6 bike household and we'd love to see this get done. Yes to bikes!
As a car driver, I totally understand that sharing the road with 2 wheelers can be aggravating. From the driver's seat, it's easy enough to think: "These roads were made for CARS--not bikes! They've got NO business being here!" It's a reasonable sentiment. I get it.
The thing is, this kind of self-centered orientation has reached critical mass (in so MANY areas of our lives)--as Americans, as Charlottesvillians, and as human beings on Earth.
Expanding beyond the toddler-aged notion that we, as individuals, own the planet, and everything ON it, is not just a "good idea," or some hyperbolic, hippy-dippy rhetoric; it's the key to our survival. We're all being pressed to grow up now--to learn to SHARE that which does not belong to us, personally--and to take into account the needs of others.
The call for eco-friendly choices has never been louder.
.
The need for safe bike paths has never been more obvious.
Thank you for your consideration. I sincerely hope this proposal goes through.
The proposed solution to traffic control at Burnley and Seminole makes no sense. Worse yet, it is dangerous. Most of the traffic exiting from Burnley onto Seminole is Southbound in to Charlottesville. This is particularly true during morning rush. Even with the existing traffic light, fast moving traffic on Seminole often runs the red light. If everyone must turn right, with most of those making U turn, overflow will spill onto the passing lane. People will be killed instead of inconvenienced. Adjust the timing so the wait isn't so long--sometimes 5 minutes or more now! And listen to us! We are there every morning. You are theorists with a idea--a bad idea.
I’m opposed to the proposed change at the intersection of Rt 29/Frays Mill/Burnley Station Rd. The traffic and safety issues of Rt 29 in Northern Albemarle County are real, but the R-cut and its additional lights are a bandaid solution that’ll slightly improve conditions for people entering/leaving our county while greatly inconveniencing those that live in our county in that area. A better solution would be to start scoping widening Rt29 to the county line.
I am opposed to the 29/FraysMill/Burnley station rd proposed change (R-cut) to intersection. This is not a safe alternative. Put a flashing light to warn of impending stoplight. It is more dangerous to merge into traffic, cross lanes, uturn and then merge into more traffic where we can now just turn at the stoplight. Large vehicles like fire trucks going to assist local residents in times of emergency, school buses transporting kids to our county schools, livestock trailers heading to and from Preddy Creek Park or other destinations, delivery trucks delivering to residentsin the area, as well as bicyclists use this intersection now and the danger would be increased if intersection changed to rcut. PLEASE TAKE THIS OFF THE LIST OF SUBMISSION FOR FUNDING. The decrease of stops on 29 for those traveling into or out of the County on Seminole Trail/29 is not worth the danger to the residents of the County who use this stoplight intersection each day, multiple times.
1400 car trips are taken to the trail each WEEK (mostly by nearby residents)! Promote healthy living, provide equitable access, limit pollution & traffic. Both of the Saunders-Monticello trail parking lots are overflowing on weekends, to the point that cars are parked along Route 20.
PVCC has 5000 students. Surely many students would prefer to commute by bike.
The demand for bikes has gone THROUGH THE ROOF during the COVID-19 pandemic. We need safe bike paths.
There are 15 major running races (Women's 4miler, Cville 10miler, Monticello 5k, New Year's 5k, Boar's Head Turkey Trot, etc.). Thousands of runners and race organizers will benefit from the new path!
The South Side neighborhoods flock to the Monticello HS / PVCC grounds for exercise. Let them safely cross Rt 20 or get downtown without risking their lives on Avon Street Ext.
For those who live in one of the many neighborhoods around this area, the quick drive to Monticello Trails or PVCC seems wasteful and unnecessary, but the safety concerns along RT. 20 make the trip by bike or foot seem too dangerous to consider. When considering new trails, it is always helpful to seek ways to make the most common routes and places safely accessible. This trail is necessary to help the community get to some of the most desirable places by foot or bike. It will also provide yet another good trail transition from the City to the County.
The shared-use path on Route 20 is necessary for equitable access to PVCC and the Saunders Monticello Trail. It also provides a safe alternative for people who commute by bike or on foot from the neighborhoods off Avon St Extended. Right now the only way to get to town from Avon Extended is across the Avon street bridge, where this is not a bike lane, and the traffic moves very fast. We need safer alternatives.
This path looks like an excellent solution, to help people get out to the Monticello trails on foot or by bicycle! One concern I have is about the crosswalk at Quarry Rd. crossing southbound Monticello Ave. The motor traffic here is always going too fast coming down the hill, and sight lines / visibility is inadequate. I think having some speed bumps, or better yet, some curb cuts on the south-bound lane, to force traffic to zig-zag and slow down a bit, would be essential to the safety of this cross walk. Thanks for considering my comment.
We oppose the proposed R cut at Burnley Station and Rt 29.

Please do not approve the proposed change. It is a terrible idea, especially for all of us who live off of Burnley Stations, Watts Passage.
