This is Janie Pudhorodsky, a member of Church of the Incarnation and a leader in IMPACT. I oppose budget because it does not include any money for an affordable housing trust fund. Affordable housing trust funds are the most efficient use of money to improve the house in crisis we are in. The situation is going to be worse for the most vulnerable due to the Covid-19 crisis and they need anything that can be done to improve the housing crisis.
I am a representative of IMPACT, which represents 25 congregations spread throughout our community, and I want to encourage you to include money for an affordable housing fund in this year's budget. I know that the economy is especially unpredictable in this time of pandemic, but one thing we can be sure of is that people who had little or no safety net before will be even worse off now. The lack of affordable housing our community was seeing before (with more than 6000 households in the county cost-burdened by their housing) will be exacerbated now. Affordable housing trust funds are the most efficient use of money to actually see results, and now is the time to act, so that when the new housing policy is adopted later this year, there are already funds to work with. Please consider amending the budget to include at least $2.5 million for an Affordable Housing Fund. Thank you.
I live in Albemarle and go to TJMC-UU Church. I have witnessed the impact of the lack of affordable housing on the elderly on fixed incomes as well as the physically and mentally challenged people who also live in Albemarle County. The Covid-19 epidemic is only making their burden greater. I urge you to include $2.5 million in the budget for more affordable housing in Albemarle. These funds will increase the safety and security of our fellow citizens. This is what good government is all about.
Affordable housing is an urgent need in Albemarle and COVID-19 is only pushing even more people to the brink of homelessness. We need funding to ensure everyone can afford to live here. Please put at least $2.5 million in the housing fund to help developers build homes that everyone can afford.
My name is Josh Scott from Charlottesville Vineyard Church, reprsenting IMPACT. Affordable housing was already a severe problem in Albemarle county, and this will only get worse due to the economic impact of COVID-19. It is urgent that the Housing Fund receives at least $2.5 million for all residents of the county to have access to safe and affordable housing.
